What FSSC 22000 means

FSSC 22000 stands for Food Safety System Certification. The scheme combines core elements of EN ISO 22000:2018 and ISO/TS 22002-1. ISO/TS 22002-1 was drawn up in order to define the requirements for the basic conditions and activities of a food business. Its main purpose is to maintain a suitable hygienic environment.

FSSC is considered equivalent to the corresponding standards IFS Food Standard and the SQF Code. It applies to all food businesses whose main activity is the production, processing and packing of food.

How we implemented it

To implement the scheme we carried out the following steps:

1. Establishing the management procedures required by EN ISO 22000:2018.
2. Improving infrastructure and working conditions as provided for by legislation, together with the prerequisite programmes (PRPs) defined in ISO/TS 22002-1.
3. Maintaining a properly trained team to develop and apply an effective system and to produce a quality product.
4. Setting critical limits for each CCP and monitoring them, in order to establish corrections and corrective actions.
5. Continuous staff training, to safeguard the quality of our products.

Food safety policy

PATERAKIS S.A. offers the consumer high-quality products intended to meet their expectations. The safety and quality of its food are very important to the company. Respect for consumers, employees and partners is its main concern.

In this context, the company undertakes:

• To establish, document and maintain the H.A.C.C.P., EN ISO 22000:2018 and FSSC 22000 v.6 systems. Furthermore, to identify, assess and control safety hazards at every stage before and after the production and distribution of its products.
• To comply, likewise, with Greek and EU food safety legislation and with the rules of good manufacturing practice.
• To produce and store quality products. Its main purpose is to satisfy the requirements of its consumers, its own viability, environmental practices and the responsibilities of its staff.
• To provide, further, services of excellent quality that meet the needs and expectations of customers.
• To establish strategies for product safety and quality within its annual business planning processes.
• To set annual safety and quality objectives, at both individual and team level, across all of its activities.
• To communicate its strategies and its performance in product safety. Additionally, to maintain quality internally among all partners as well as with key external interested parties.
• To ensure the continuation of its performance in product safety in accordance with the FSSC 22000 v.6 standard.
• To uphold both human rights and the rights of employees in matters of pay, working hours, working environment and allocation of resources.
• To demonstrate environmental awareness.
• To provide for health and safety in the workplace and not to employ children.
• To verify the effectiveness of the product safety and quality management systems. To achieve this it uses internal and external audit procedures recognised in accordance with the International Standards and the respective bodies.
• To ensure that suppliers feel the same commitment to product safety and quality, and that they monitor the materials they supply by means of checks and inspections of incoming goods.

The company’s commitment to quality management across the full range of its activities and operations is a commitment of all its employees and an integral part of their daily work. To achieve this objective, the company has established a system for planning, implementing, monitoring and continuously improving its activities, and has organised the management of its resources (people, equipment, materials) in accordance with the requirements and the terms of the FSSC 22000 v.6 standard.
